I didn’t step into real estate with a safety net. I stepped in with determination, a daughter to raise, and the unshakable belief
that I could build something better from the ground up.
I’ve been strangely drawn to real estate since high school. I don’t come from a family of builders or REALTORS®—it just felt like something I was meant to do. When I graduated as valedictorian, I wanted to get my real estate license right away, but when several of my friends said they wanted to do the same, I hesitated. I didn’t want to compete with them (looking back, I wish I had gone for it—none of them ended up pursuing real estate!)
I began working for a commercial construction company that became like family. I started out handling administrative tasks, then worked my way up to manager and eventually assistant project manager. During that time, I married my high school boyfriend, and we later welcomed our daughter, Aven. Life felt stable—steady paychecks, a great team, and a predictable routine. But after fifteen years, I realized I had hit a glass ceiling. I loved the people I worked with, but part of me wanted to see what else was out there.
Around that time, my best friend Melinda, a REALTOR® I’ve known for over twenty years, called and said she needed an assistant. “Do you want the job?” she asked. I was terrified. She could sense my hesitation and said something that changed everything: “You’ve had this dream of becoming a REALTOR® forever. Either get your license now or quit dreaming.”
That phrase hit me hard. I took it to heart, got my license in 2020, and started a new chapter. I began assisting Melinda, building my own client base from scratch, and waitressing at a Mexican restaurant to make ends meet—all while raising a little girl. But I was determined. I watched the top agents in the office, studied their habits, and learned what made them great. I realized this job wasn’t about transactions; it was about people. Buying or selling a home is emotional, and I wanted to meet my clients where they were—with sensitivity, honesty, and integrity.
Within a year, I was able to quit waitressing and focus on real estate full-time. My business was growing—but my marriage was
crumbling. I had been with my husband for half of my life, and suddenly I found myself moving into an apartment with three bags, no pots or pans, maxed-out credit cards, and six hundred dollars in my bank account. I was heartbroken, scared, and mourning the loss of a marriage. It was the most emotionally taxing period of my life, but I kept showing up for my clients and my daughter.
That season rebuilt my faith and reminded me how resilient I could be. Slowly, life began to feel lighter again. My business flourished, and my confidence returned. Then, three years ago, a past client—who has since become a dear friend—introduced me to Shawn. She said she thought we’d be a perfect match. From the moment I met Shawn, I was drawn to his humor and his grounded energy. Over time, I saw how honorable he was—the way he spoke about people who weren’t in the room showed respect and integrity.
Today, I’m married to that amazing man. Shawn supports me wholeheartedly and loves watching me shine. My daughter Aven, now eleven, is my miracle, my little monster princess, and the joy of my life. Quality time with loved ones fills my heart—whether it’s sitting on the porch with friends or playing board games with Aven.
I also love giving back. I volunteer in the kids’ ministry and lead small groups at church. I support the Humane Society, local children’s nonprofits through Northwood Church, and our REALTOR® association. Life hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge led me here—to a place of gratitude, faith, and fulfillment.
I credit my success in real estate to God and to how I treat people. I go above and beyond for my clients, doing whatever it takes to get them from point A to point B. Authenticity matters to me—I like to keep things real, sharing laughter when I can and truth when it’s needed, always from a place of love. I see my clients as family and care for them as I would my own.
I never push for a sale; my goal is to make sure clients are truly taken care of. Many of them become friends, and we stay in touch long after closing. Having lived my entire life in Mississippi, my local knowledge is unmatched. I love helping people find the right community to match their values and lifestyle, especially those relocating from out of state. For them, I record detailed videos of homes and neighborhoods so they can explore from afar. I take pride in matching clients with homes they’ll love and feel at peace in.
Sincerely,

Rachel Allen
